Wollongong City Council is presently looking into the matter after the red writing was discovered on Tuesday morning.
"The lighthouse on Endeavour Drive in Wollongong was graffitied overnight. The red spray paint has been removed by Council crews this morning," a council spokesperson said.
"Anyone with information about the vandalism should contact Wollongong Police".
It is the second time in 10 months Wollongong's lighthouses have been the subject of a graffiti attack.
More to come: Wollongong lighthouse vandalism 'no way to protest'
The large lighthouse at Flagstaff Hill and the smaller Breakwater Lighthouse to the entrance to Wollongong Harbour were targeted with the words Climate Justice Now last September just hours before rallies were held in Wollongong and 100 other locations around the nation calling for climate justice.
Early morning joggers, walkers and cyclists made that discovery just after dawn when they saw the words Climate Justice Now written prominently in red paint on both lighthouses.
At the time Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said there were better ways to get the message across than defacing such iconic structures in the city.
Council crews were quick to clean much of the red paint off the two lighthouses on that occasion and were again on Tuesday morning.
