Cooks had opted out of his Kings contract in May to explore his overseas options, however, the Kings announced the 24-year-old would remain in Sydney for the 2020/21 NBL season.
"I loved every minute of my time with the Kings last season, and I'm excited to be returning to Sydney to finish what we started this year," the Kings forward said.
The NBL on Tuesday released the free agency list for the upcoming season. The postponed free agency period begins on July 15.
It will be a busy period for the Hawks, with the likes of Sunday Dech, Angus Glover and Sam Froling all given the opportunity to explore free agency. However, new Hawks coach Brian Goorjian told the Mercury last week that retaining young talent was among the re-branded club's top priorities.
"You look at guys like Sunday Dech, [Emmett] Naar and [Sam] Froling, they're tremendous talents and something the new organisation is excited about, targeting those young ones and getting them back," he said.
