Lake Illawarra police are warning people to be on the lookout for counterfeit money circulating in the region.

Lake Illawarra Police District's Anti Theft Unit is conducting an investigation after a number of counterfeit notes were passed at businesses in the area, including a supermarket at Unanderra and a convenience store in Shellharbour.
Police are continuing their investigations to identify those responsible for passing and making the counterfeit $50 notes.
Police are warning business owners and the community to be on the lookout for fake $50 notes, in particular notes clearly marked with blue Asian writing.
Anyone who is handed one of these notes is asked to contact police immediately and handle the note appropriately as to preserve any forensic evidence.

Police are also asking that any CCTV of the offence should be preserved and made available to investigators.
