The property at 20 Russell Street, Balgownie has a price guide of $1.8 million.
The fibro cottage sits on a 2032sqm parcel of land with a 23.3-metre frontage, while the home features four bedrooms and one bathroom.
Greek migrants Achilles Voulgaris and wife Elesteria bought the property in the late 1950s and raised their three children there.
One of their children, Helen Floratos, has fond memories of growing up at the home.
"When they bought it, in that street there were a few Australians, and a lot of Italians," she said.
"Dad bought the place from an Italian man, and it was in pounds and shillings back then.
"I can't recall how much he paid for it, but I don't think it was through a bank - I believe they paid the Italians back slowly for the property.
"There were no houses behind it. You could see clearly from Dad's backyard to Mt Keira, and you could count one or two homes along the way that were blocking the view.
"It was open. Watching the development over the years has been amazing."
The family added to the initially two-bedroom house over the years, but maintained its essence.
"When you'd see all these homes and developments around, we used to call it 'Little House on the Prairie'," Mrs Floratos said.
"It has been altered and changed over the years, but they were just comfortable being who they were.
"To make the house brick never entered Dad's head - he was more than happy with what he had."
Mrs Floratos said both her parents had remained living there until they passed away.
"Never did it enter their heads to go anywhere else," she said.
"That was their home."
Mrs Floratos said she would be sad to see the property leave the family.
However, she said they were selling as "we've all got our own separate lives now".
"After 60 years, it's time to let go for the next chapter of 20 Russell Street," she said.
"I'd like to see a development there. It's a massive block of land, and continuing the trend of where Balgownie is headed to, I think it would be sad for just one house to be there.
"I think more people can benefit from it."
Agents say interest in the property has fallen into three main categories.
These are builders/developers wanting to build up to eight townhouses or villas on the land (subject to council approval); groups wanting to build three homes on the block to use as a family commune; and buyers keen on building one large family home.
The property will be auctioned on August 1.
The selling agent is McGrath Wollongong's Jason Capelo.
He said the property had only been on the market since last Thursday, but had already attracted significant interest.
"It's not an everyday property," he told the Mercury.
"It's a unique parcel of land, it's got a great aspect, a great view."
