She attended Zoom meetings with her coaches, she trained in the backyard, she did the home workouts.
But nothing could prepare her for a return to competitive basketball.
That return happened earlier this month, the 15-year-old playing in the Basketball Illawarra local competition.
While she fared better than she initially thought she would, Thompson said it's difficult to replicate match intensity.
"It was hard not having access to the stadium and being face to face with the coaches," Thompson said.
"I had programs set for me and I think I did well in maintaining fitness, but it wasn't the same as being face to face and on the court.
"It was fun to get back playing though. It was good to see everyone, the teams have changed, so we're playing different people. It's good to be back."
With winter representative tournaments cancelled, organisers are attempting to piece together a season.
Plans are in place for a NSW Country event in September and Thompson is looking forward to pulling on her Illawarra Hawks singlet, should the tournament take place.
"My goal was to get into the under 16 NSW Country team this year. Now we're still waiting on whether the Country Championships go ahead.
"Now my goal is to make the State Performance Program again, then work towards a Country tour. I'll be the bottom age, which makes it harder, but I'll keep working hard to make any teams."
