There are plenty of indoor venues parents can escape to with the kids, from indoor skate parks to aeroplane museums and roller skating rinks.
Bookings are essential and social distancing rules apply.
1. Indoor skating at Wollongong
At 3Sixty, the kids get to have a spin around the indoor park, while the parents relax over a coffee. Details.
2. Ten pin bowling at Corrimal
As well as 20 bowling lanes, Northern Bowl is full of arcade machines with soft toys and other prizes to be won. Open seven days. Details.
3. Petting zoo at Albion Park
Just before Macquarie Pass, Matilda's Farmyard Nursery offers kids a chance to feed and pet the animals - with an undercover area to shelter from the rain. Details.
4. Vintage planes at Albion Park
Walk through operational hangars and get get up close and personal with aeroplanes at the HARS Aviation Museum at Shellharbour Airport. Open daily from 9.30am to 3.30pm. Details.
5. Science and planetarium shows at North Wollongong
The Science Space is running live shows including Bubbleology, Liquid Nitrogen and Moon Base One, as well as lucky dip prizes and random guests. Details.
6. Go-Karting at Albion Park
C1 Speed Indoor Karting and Laser Tag is open every day this week for go-karting (no laser tag). The minimum age for karting is 10, with a height requirement of at least 140cm. Details.
7. Rock climbing at Coniston
The kids can climb the walls out of fun - rather than boredom - at Hangdog Climbing Gym these school holidays. Details.
8. Roller skating at Oak Flats
Lace up a pair of skates and take a whirl around the South Coast's only remaining roller skating rink. Details.

The Illawarra has two Flip Out trampoline venues for the kids to have a jump and release some energy. Details.
11. Putt-putt golf and arcade games in Wollongong
Holy Moly and B Lucky & Sons are right next door to each other in Wollongong Central - take your pick between putt-putt golf and arcade games. Under 18s are welcome with a responsible adult before 8pm at both venues. Details.
12. Art workshops at home
Wollongong Art Gallery has published online workshops, including Rosie Deacon's Wearable Art Eye Masks and Cardboard Picasso Faces on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. Details.
