Using the hashtag #BringMilkyLaneToWollongong, the Bondi burger chain - famous for its super-decadent menu and hip-hop inspired fit-out - revealed on Facebook that it was up against two other potential tenants for the Wollongong site.

"Wollongong friends we need your help," the post reads.

"Today we checked out the perfect site down there.

"Problem is - two other brands are trying to get it too.

"Let's make some huge noise on this post with comments and tags and show the owners of the site that nothing will come close to Milky Lane hitting Wollongong.

"If this comes through, the turnaround will be quick but we need them to see your support."

Wollongong followers quickly obliged, with the post generating more than 1400 reactions, 1300 comments and 165 shares in its first 14 hours.

"Omg yes please. My kids would love this to come to Wollongong and of course I'd join them in consuming your awesome shakes, burgers and desserts," one follower posted.

Another wrote: "We so need a Milky Lane in Wollongong. Love it," with Milky Lane responding, "Fingers crossed Monica!!! It's been a long time coming."

The Mercury understands the Keira St restaurant space formerly occupied by Criniti's is one of the premises in Milky Lane's sights. When approached by the Mercury the company said it couldn't confirm locations yet.

The Milky Lane experience promises triple-decker burgers named after stars like Kevin Bacon and Drake, loaded fries, cocktails - and desserts including the deep-fried Golden Gaytime, drizzled with maple syrup and nutella.

The fit-out includes neon signs, booths and a bar set against a backdrop of Snoop Dogg, Tupac and Rihanna spray painted onto the walls.
