Albion Park secured a 2-0 win over Warilla Wanderers to kick off the Women's Division One season at King Mickey Oval on Sunday.
While they've swept all before them in recent years - including four State Cups and four premiership wins, this year marks a new chapter for Albion Park's women.
Gone are the likes of stars Michelle Foscarini and Kristina Glisic, and stepping into their places are a crop of exciting young talent.
"Losing five or six players like that, any team is going to struggle," Albion Park coach Richard Davis said.
"But I'm very happy with the girls. It was a pleasing effort. Their commitment and enthusiasm, and dedication to the game was good.
"We've got a few young girls coming up from another division. Eliza Cowan's still only 17 but she's going good. Jessica Rossi is only 19 and has fitted in well. Taryn [Ruiz] is a bit older but she's got experience and is going to be a valuable asset for these young girls. Brittany Ring is a class player so it's good she's still there."
"Davis said he was impressed by the Wanderers' performance on Sunday.
"I think University are going to be the team to beat, but Warilla will be a team that shocks a few teams this year," he said.
"They're a good young team."
In other Women's Division One results, last year's grand finalists University kicked off their 2020 campaign with a 2-0 win over Woonona on Sunday.
Kiama thrashed Fernhill 9-0 on Friday night while Wollongong United sealed a 3-1 win over Thirroul on Sunday.
