Figtree made a huge statement to kick off their campaign, securing a thumping 13.19 (97) to 1.5 (11) win over the Lions on Saturday at North Dalton Park.
It was the first time the Kangaroos have beaten Wollongong in AFL South Coast's men's premier division.
Roos coach Will Ryan said it was a great way to start the season but they wouldn't get ahead of themselves.
"The key for us is to continue what we want to do. We've set our sights on going all the way this year," Ryan said.
"We've got to really just take it one week at a time, especially considering everything else going on. You can't think too far ahead because we may only play four or five games, or the season might get shut down. It's about keeping our expectations week to week."
The Kangaroos booted three unanswered goals in the first quarter before opening up a 34-point lead by half time. They booted two more goals in the third term before finishing strongly in the last with five unanswered goals.
The two Daniels - Constable and Johnson - combined for eight goals while Zach Doyle, Patrick O'Connell and Adam Schuback were among Figtree's best.
Jake Hogarth kicked Wollongong's sole goal.
"I think the most pleasing part for us was that we didn't have to rely on just one player, we were able to share it around," Ryan said.
"Individual guys obviously had great games, but there wasn't any selfishness within the squad. And the guys that stood up weren't the new ones in the squad, it was the guys from last year who had a bit of a point to prove and they were really hunting after it."
Elsewhere, Northern Districts also had an emphatic win. Brendan Davis kicked eight goals as the Tigers thrashed Shellharbour City by 63 points.
Kiama recorded a comfortable seven-goal win over Bomaderry.
