A seven-round competition will include some of the nation's emerging professional and top amateur surfers, including at Kiama on November 22-23.
Former World Surf League Championship Tour and current coach to South Coast's world champion Tyler Wright, Glenn Hall said it was an important opportunity for top talent to compete again
"The importance of a series like this for surfers to keep their competitive skills intact," Hall said.
"I would encourage any surfers I'm working with to enter an event like this in order to keep their blade sharp and to remain competitive."
Following the Covid-19 crisis which has had a huge impact on sport worldwide, it halted international travel, prompting Australian surfing officials to pull together the new concept.
It will begin on Queensland's Sunshine Coast on September 19-20, before moving to the Gold Coast on October 31.
The tour will also include Cronulla (November 8-9), then Kiama, before moving to Coffs Harbour and Sydney's northern beaches, with a Victorian round still to be announced.
Kiama has already hosted several top state, national junior and world bodyboarding tour events.
Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden said the domestic tour is also tailored to help foster and nurture Australian talent.
"The 2020 Australian Open of Surfing Tour is the perfect platform for professional and grassroots surfers to come together in Australia to compete in a series of events in decent locations," Madden said.
"We really hope we can build this series each year into a prestigious title and tour similar to the national series events we used to see in the 80's and 90's."
