HARS volunteer Michael Hough said the three classic aircraft on show from the HARS Aviation Museum for the Kidzwish event are a Neptune long-range submarine patrol bomber, a Canberra jet bomber and a former Polish Air Force supersonic MiG-21 jet fighter which is new to the aviation museum's collection. Gates will open one hour ahead before each session.
KidzWish's Renee Hawira said said on Thursday there are nearly 1000 people registered to attend over the two days but there are some tickets still available for three of the five sessions.
KidzWish is bringing a 40m2 LED screen on the back of a semi-trailer with a hydraulic lift for wider viewing opportunities.
It also has food vans and a candy bar.
"We're bringing the community together with volunteers assisting from local Rotary clubs, KidzWish and Albion Park Little Athletics," Ms Hawira said.
"All funds raised over the weekend will go towards our KidzWish programs. We're really excited to have local businesses come onboard during this trying time and support our event, helping us raise much needed funds for our KidzWish families."
Shellharbour mayor Marianne Saliba will open the event on Friday afternoon.
"This is going to be a great event for local families, many of whom would not have had a drive-in movie experience before," Cr Saliba said.
"I am delighted that Council is able to support this initiative by providing Shellharbour Airport as the venue.
"I enjoyed attending drive-in movies when I was younger. Myself and my family are looking forward to the event which will raise much-needed funds for local KidzWish families."
Tickets for the five movies supporting the Illawarra children's charity can be purchased at the KidzWish website. Movie goers will be able to drive onto the tarmac on the eastern end of Shellharbour Airport and tune in their FM radio for sound. Admission is adults $27, children $17 and $95 for a family of five.
The first movie screening is the children's movie Paddington 2 at 5.30pm on the Friday night
The second session is at 8.30pm on Friday when an adult audience will be targeted with the screening of Jumanji 'Welcome to the Jungle'.
The third session is another children's move at 2pm on Saturday when Shaun the Sheep Farmageddon hits the big screen at the airport. At 5.30pm there will be a screening of Missing Link.
The choice of movie for the final session at 8.30pm on the Saturday was made by public vote on the Wave FM website where Ride Like A Girl won out.
