A fallen tree has closed the Illawarra Highway at the top of Macquarie Pass on Monday afternoon.

The highway is closed in both directions.
SES crews are working to remove the fallen tree, which came down shortly before 12pm.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area while the hazard is being cleared.
Diversions are in place with light vehicles travelling via Jamberoo Mountain Road and heavy vehicles taking Picton Road.
As of Monday morning, there were 83 calls for assistance in the Illawarra, which includes the South Highlands and down to Nowra, in the last 24 hours mainly for help with fallen trees and roofs leaking.
