A driver was trapped for a short time after he hit a telegraph pole and flipped his car at Lake Illawarra on Tuesday morning.
Emergency services were called to Shellharbour Road, near Queen Street about 10am after the ute landed on its roof.
The male driver had minor injuries and was alert and talking to paramedics.
However, the vehicle was wrapped around him making it difficult for Fire and Rescue and Police Rescue crews to access him.
It took crews about half and hour to extract him from the vehicle.
The man has been taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition.
Traffic is heavy and is being diverted via Queen St, King St, Windle St, and Reddall Parade.
