"I've always loved the first day of school better than the last day of school. Firsts are best because they are beginnings" - Jenny Han.
Principal Sharon Rigg of Primbee Public School reflects on this quote and thinks of her first day at kindergarten - quite a few years ago.
"I look back on my first day with pride as I walked slowly through the school gate with a few tears in my eyes as I waved at my mum who also had tears," Sharon said. "I look back with pride because it was a challenging day meeting many new faces and being in an unfamiliar environment.
"I didn't have an older sibling at school and no preschool buddies and we didn't have kindergarten orientation back in those days."
At Primbee Public School they recognise that the first day of kindergarten is such a big step for their little ones but also for parents and carers and that they need to support them through this big step. The first day is the beginning of a wonderful learning journey.
"Primbee Public School strives to make these transitions from preschool and home to kindergarten as smooth as possible for the students in our care," Sharon added.
"We are proud that within our lovely school all students are known, valued and cared for and we embrace opportunities to learn together with our parents and carers.
"We are proud of the learning partnerships that our school has forged with our amazing families.
"This year we are unable to run our amazing transition to school program due to the challenges that COVID-19 presents us.
"However, our school community is innovative and relentless when it comes to providing quality educational opportunities for our students.
"We are proud to announce that we will host transition programs online. Please find this on our school website at primbee-p.schools.nsw.gov.au
"Our teachers have come together to create a lovely video that showcases a day in our kindergarten class. It is a delightful video which we hope our new students will enjoy viewing with their families.
"We have also created a link to our Kindy Expo that has all of the information that we would normally provide onsite.
"Later this term we will send each of our new students an invitation to a Teddy Bears Picnic held over Zoom. We hope that this will be a wonderful experience for both parents and students at the beginning of their learning journey."
At Primbee Public School they continue to thrive through uncertain times and enjoy learning together.
