An educational revolution - Shellharbour Anglican College

Mid-year report: An educational revolution

Who would have predicted that we would see an educational revolution in 2020 with the shift to online learning during a global crisis?

As the move to remote learning became clear, Shellharbour Anglican College staff worked hard and fast to provide exceptional online learning opportunities for all students.

Staff and students demonstrated grit, resilience, understanding and integrity as the school has and continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shellharbour Anglican College principal Megan Hastie says, "I am so proud of our teachers, who prepared carefully to make the transition to remote learning as smooth as possible. They worked tirelessly to prepare engaging learning for students, and this required a phenomenal shift in their own learning and a massive uptake of new technologies and pedagogies."

Staff worked extraordinary hours, and they have done this willingly because they care deeply for their students. Students have also been flexible, willing to learn and have shouldered a different way of learning. They have been required to take responsibility, solve problems, manage their time and have a balanced approach to life. These are not bad things - they are learning skills that will help them flourish in life!

Mrs Hastie says, "We continue to affirm the importance of helping children grow into adaptive, resilient and courageous young men and women as we establish new norms and prepare for the uncertainties. We will continue to be thankful and to celebrate the joys, the wins and our many successes along the way."

The shift in education this year has seen parents recognise the importance of finding the right school for their child. At Shellharbour Anglican College they take pride in providing a wonderful education for all students, encouraging them to strive for excellence and lead lives of purpose.

"We have built a culture where every child matters. Our pastoral system ensures every student is known and cared for. Our aim is to build confident, resilient and compassionate young people who have a sense of hope," says Mrs Hastie.
