The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts Wollongong will receive 15mm to 45mm of rain with winds south to southwesterly of 15 to 20 km/h in the morning then becoming easterly of 15 to 25 km/h in the early afternoon.
A top temperature of 15 degrees Celsius is predicted.
Bureau of Meteorology's Dean Narramore said a cut-off low over South Australia is bringing widespread rain to NSW.
"Rain will focus on the southern coastal ranges on Saturday and Sunday," he said. "Rain will be heavy at times.
"This rain will be falling on areas that are already wet from the last round of rain."
Showers are expected to ease on Saturday and Sunday with a maximum of 30mm expected to fall across the weekend.
Rain is expected to continue on Monday with up to 15mm forecast.
There are no weather warnings for the Illawarra in place as of Thursday night.
