1. Kellys Falls, Garawarra State Conservation Area
Where: Off Lawrence Hargrave Drive, near Helensburgh.
What: Falls that cascade over rocks and drop into a stunning pool. From the picnic area, you can walk up to one of four scenic lookouts to take in the views of waterfalls and the rainforest-lined gullies below. Details.
2. Maddens Falls, Dharawal National Park
Where: The southern side of Darkes Forest Road, opposite the Apple Shack Glenbernie Orchard.
What: An easy walk to the lookout for a view of the waterfall dropping from Maddens Creek to the pools below. The short walking track is a great one for children. Details.
3. Nellies Glen, Budderoo National Park
Where: The Southern Highlands.
What: A beautiful, shady swimming hole that a lot of people miss as it's not well signposted. Enjoy the waterfall and explore the nearby range of spectacular lookouts via Missingham lookout track, Warris Chair lookout track or Carrington Falls picnic area. Details.
4. Carrington Falls, Budderoo National Park
Where: Southern Highlands
What: With its cascades, waterholes and rockpools, some regard Carrington Falls - where the Kangaroo River plunges over 50m to the gully below - as the most beautiful on the South Coast. Details.
5. Fitzroy Falls, Morton National Park
Where: Southern Highlands
What: One of the most spectacular waterfalls anywhere in Australia, the 81m-high Fitzroy Falls drops dramatically into the untouched bushland of Morton National Park. Details.
6. Macquarie Cascades, Macquarie Pass National Park
Where: At the base of Macquarie Pass on the right hand side.
What: An easy and rewarding walk that will take you through rainforest and tall eucalypt forest along a creek to the beautiful cascades. Details.
7. Clover Hill, Macquarie Pass National Park
Where: Off Macquarie Pass.
What: An old logging route leads to Rainbow Falls and three smaller falls upstream on the Macquarie Rivulet. After walking in the dense shade of the forest, suddenly the landscape opens up at Clover Hill - these are the paddocks cleared by farmers over a century ago. Details.
8. Minnamurra Falls, Jamberoo
Where: Minnamurra Falls Road, Jamberoo.
What: Spectacular rainforest, waterfall and canyon views from several viewing platforms along The Falls walk, which starts halfway through the Rainforest loop at Minnamurra Rainforest Centre. Details.
Warning: Minnamurra Rainforest is experiencing high visitation which may result in lengthy delays accessing the park.
9. Curracurrong Falls, Royal National Park
Where: In the eastern precinct of the Royal National Park.
What: A challenging 10km Curra Moors loop track taking you past the Curracurrong waterfall, which empties into the ocean, a short detour from the magnificent Eagle Rock. Details.
Warning: Park entry fees apply. NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services recommends checking the weather before you set out as the track can become boggy when it rains. Visitors are reminded to experience the beauty of this natural wonder without risking their safety.
