On Friday Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba unveiled a new permanent exhibition of the Shellharbour City Hall of Fame, at the Civic Centre.
Cr Saliba also took the opportunity to call for community nominations of new inductees, to join the 29 the city has already honoured.
"We are asking the community to nominate anyone that they believe should be included in that Hall of Fame, and they've got until the 9th of October to do so," she said.
"They can get nomination forms from the Civic Centre website. It really is a good opportunity to ensure that we are capturing our history and being able to pass all the information that we have onto the future."
The Shellharbour City Hall of Fame was established in 1988 as a way to celebrate and recognise individuals within the Shellharbour City Local Area who have made significant achievements and contributions in their field of endeavour.
The new exhibition displays Hall of Fame recipients and their outstanding achievements across a diverse range of fields including government, community services, industry/business, inventions, the arts, science and sport and recreation.
Previous inductees include cricketers Shane and Brett Lee, inventor Evelyn Owen, noted vascular surgeon Dr Vernon Allen James OAM, agriculturalist and pastoralist Henry Osborne and former Australian rugby union player and former Wallabies captain Geoff 'Bunter' Shaw.
"We have a lot of sports people at the moment but it is really about acknowledging those people who have contributed something significant to our community," Cr Saliba said.
"The Hall of Fame is a fantastic community resource and source of civic pride that can inspire current and future residents to strive for their own dreams and aspirations."
