"He was a gentle giant ... very astute and analytical and intelligent," said surfboard shaper Phil Byrne.
"If you've surfed along the coast in the last 20 years you've probably been caught on camera by the local legend."
Clarrie's son Woodie has organised a paddle-out at Sandon Point at 8am on Saturday.
"I couldn't imagine a better place to do this than at Sandon Point where we all know he most recently - given his long list of life achievements - enjoyed numerous hours of the day taking photos and having a yarn," Woodie posted on his Facebook page.
"He knew a plethora of people so this seems the best way to arrange something given the current situation and to allow as many of those who get to read this, and can make it, to come along and pay tribute to Clarrie."
As well as taking photos of surfers in action, Clarrie was a well-known musician around the traps, and Woodie is encouraging to bring along their guitars on Sunday, as well as their surfboards.
"It's the days of distancing so be mindful yet bring your BBQ's and any musical instruments you feel need a play, he would surely want to feel the vibrations!"
"At this very sad moment we can also celebrate the amazing life he lived and honor the great memories he left and man he was!"
