The Blueys opened up a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes and were never headed, pushing on to record a 3-1 win at Tarrawanna Oval to kick off round seven of the IPL season.
Tarrawanna had entered the game in eighth spot, but were only behind Corrimal on their for and against record. With a month now remaining until finals, Blueys captain Mitch Ferraro said it was an important victory against the Lions.
"It was good to be able to be composed and play as a team," he said.
"It felt pretty good to pretty much be on top the whole game, play with confidence and be positive the whole game. It was good to get the early lead and keep it moving forward."
The Blueys were the first side to score, with Zac Mazevski finding the back of the net in the 34th minute. Seven minutes, the home side had doubled that advantage courtesy of Tyler Black.
However, Cringila refused to give in and managed a reply through Tobias Norval in the final minutes of the first half.
The score remained 2-1 at the break, before Ferraro put the result beyond doubt in the 58th minute with a nice goal.
For the Blueys captain, Saturday's win was the perfect response after his side fell 5-4 to Albion Park in a high-scoring thriller last Saturday.
"We knew after the hard loss that we copped last week that it was a big game for us to have a chance to play in the finals. It was good to come out and get the win, and hopefully we'll keep going forward with this," Ferraro said.
"'Crini' always do their best, they're always battling the whole 90 minutes. But I felt we were on the top game, it felt good to be on top."
In other IPL games, Port Kembla claimed their second win of 2020 with a 3-0 victory over Coniston at Wetherall Park on Saturday afternoon.
Tori Musumeci scored a double for the winners while teammate Fabian Lacovelli also found the back of the net.
Elsewhere, Bellambi remain unbeaten this season following a hard-fought 2-all draw with Wollongong Olympic at Elizabeth Reserve.
The score read 0-all at half time, before Bellambi's Vaughan Patterson and Olympic's Corey Haines-Grose traded goals around the 55-minute mark. The home side then looked to have secured victory when Patterson completed his double in the 85th minute.
Despite losing captain David Hartas to a late red card, Olympic managed to draw level in the 92nd minute through Johnny Martinoski to claim one competition point.
Albion Park and Woonona were also forced to share the points following a 1-all draw at Terry Reserve.
The Sharks jumped out to a 1-0 lead at half time following a goal from Brendan Pattman. However, Aris Seitaridis found the back of the net in the second half to equalise for the White Eagles.
