Yu Hasegawa mustered a double for Wollongong at PCYC, as the side strengthened their place in the top five with three rounds remaining in the regular season.
It was a hard-fought battle in the first half and nothing could separate the two teams at the break.
Hasegawa scored the opening goal in the 53rd minute, before he doubled Olympic's advantage 14 minutes later. That's how the final score would remain as the home side picked up the three points.
"Yu has been threatening to score goals the last couple of games. It was good for him to get a couple of goals, the boys are really happy for him. He's working really hard," Olympic coach George Antoniou told the Mercury.
"I'm happy with the result, but I think our performance could obviously be a bit better. It was a bit of an arm wrestle, and Port battled very well and made it hard for us. We were able to combat that, and we were good enough to get a couple of goals.
"There could have been a couple more in the end but we were happy to get to 2-0 and just move forward."
With finals just around the corner, Antoniou said he has happy with how Olympic were tracking in 2020 but there was room for improvement.
"I think we've been kind of cold for this part of the season," he said.
"Obviously with the situation that everyone is in, it's made it a little bit harder this year. But at the end of the day, if we can make the finals and make something of that, we'll be happy."
