When it comes to carbon emissions, BlueScope is focused on what it can do right now to bring them down rather than just waiting for new technology to solve the problem.

The steelmaker hosted Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Thursday, where he announced a $1.9 billion funding program to find new technologies that would reduce emissions.
While BlueScope's head of Australian operations John Nowlan liked what he heard, he said the company was still looking at what they could achieve with what they already had.
"One of the things from our point of view is, there's the big leap, where people talk about totally carbon-free, and then there's what are the opportunities to reduce our footprint and get better at what we do," Mr Nowlan said.
"The big leap is still a long way away. Those technologies are unproven, they're at pilot plant stage at best."
"Ramping them up to a commercial stage is a long way down the track. Then there's stuff about what can we do to improve what we've got so as to reduce our carbon footprint."
The bulk of the government's $1.9 billion will go to the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and that organisation's focus will be expanded into funding technologies that will cut emissions in agriculture, manufacturing, industry and transport.
Mr Nowlan said that widening of ARENA's scope was good news for BlueScope.
"There were barriers to ARENA helping us," Mr Nowlan said.
"They've loosened the boundaries on what they can actually talk to us about and what they can potentially co-fund in terms of investment and research."
Mr Nowlan said the Port Kembla steelworks and the company had a history of adopting new technologies.
" We adopted the new casting technology and converted all our plants to that new technology when it worked and it was commercially viable," Mr Nowlan said.
