Mr Ward was speaking in response to a motion from Greens MP Jenny Leong calling on the government to expose the Liberal-Nationals deal "that determines who governs this state".

"The constant threats from the Deputy Premier have made this backroom deal - this not-so-gentlemanly arrangement that dictates who governs the state - and the secrecy around it now completely untenable," Ms Leong said on the floor of parliament.

"The complete lack of transparency around this power-sharing arrangement is a risk to our democracy."

Rather than debate the motion that was put forward, Mr Ward called on the Greens to be transparent about their "secret preference deals" with Labor.

To the sounds of laughter from the Labor side of the parliamentary chamber on Wednesday, Mr Ward said the Green were "no longer the party of Bob Brown".

"The reason I am particularly concerned about The Greens is that they are an extremist party," the Kiama MP said.

"They are a party of extremes and a party of protest."

He complained about the Greens' stance on thermal coal and various funding issues, saying they were dangerous and branding them "crazy policies".

"If The Greens were in government with Labor and their policies ever came to the fore, we would see economic Armageddon in this state," he claimed.
