Athletics NSW, like all sport, at the moment, certainly has big decisions to make as to the summer program of 2020-21. The association is really trying very hard to ensure that major meets are held and although events such as the state relays and All Schools have been put on hold for future date, it is proposed those events will go ahead, it is just when.

Athletics NSW is also targeting the first part of the season for meets conducted by clubs rather than the usual interclub Treloar Shield, and All comers meets that are usually held. Blue Stars will be part of this and an open meet is set for November at the Kerryn McCann Athletics Centre, and will be targeting sprints and middle distance events with an additional one throw and one jump.
Classed as the Meet of Sprints/Middle Distance this meet is hoping to bring a range of athletes to this area in these particular events. It will also give our local members the opportunity of competing against outside competitors, a great opportunity for all ages.
The summer season will not be any longer than the usual, and it is good to hear that IBS Illawarra Track Challenge has been pencilled in for January 2021, as with the country titles to be held at Mingara in late January 2021.
Illawarra Blue Stars will hold a trial meet next Sunday at the Kerryn McCann athletics centre, to give athletes the opportunity of moving back onto the track and competing. Starting at 2pm for a 2.30 start with events, athletes will be able to register, seek out information on uniforms, program for the season and dual athletes information.
Dual athletes registered with a Little A's clubs are being advised to go onto the portal of Athletics NSW and register with IBS as their dual registered club, the only way a dual member can now register with a senior club.
Illawarra Blue Stars will then have the long weekend off, and resume with a full program and commencement of club point score on Sunday, October 11, with round one of competition. New members are advised that Illawarra Blue take members from the under 8 age bracket right through to masters men and women and cater for all ages in all events.
Families are also encouraged to join up, giving families the opportunity of taking part in a sport at the same time, same venue, on the same day. Officials are encouraged to help out, and at all times will be there to not only officiate but to offer advice and assistance.
Kids in sport Vouchers are also encouraged to be used, and information will also be given out next Sunday as to the process.
Kembla Joggers will be conducting an open meet this Thursday, September 24, and our athletes are encouraged to take part. Events will be 400 metres at 6.15pm, followed by 1mile at 6.35pm, 3km/5km 7pm and 100 metres at 7.30pm. A great opportunity to race other athletes from other clubs.
The season looks like a very healthy one, and hopefully we will have the opportunity of all state and national titles going ahead. All members and potential members must be aware of the conditions of the COVID-safe plan and ensure they sign in at Beaton Park Leisure Centre then also when they come to the track.
