Typically held in late November, the tournament has been postponed until March as a result of coronavirus.

That gives Harvey additional time to craft his game and qualify as an amateur.

"If coronavirus stays away, my big goal is to try and qualify for the NSW Open," Harvey said.

"We'll have the NSW Amateur at the start of the year and then closer to the NSW Open there will be qualifying events.

"It's been pretty hard but it's also been a good thing going up against the men. They've been playing longer than I have so it's good to learn what they've gone through. I'm trying to understand what I need to do to be a better golfer."

The past year has seen the emerging talent excel at the junior level, while he has also impressed in a number of men's competitions.

Harvey was 54^th at January's NSW Amateur Championships and he has also featured in the open pennant squad for The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney.

The Kiama youngster was on Tuesday rewarded for his performances and commitment to training when he was named the Illawarra Academy of Sport Vic Burrows golfer of the year.

Harvey praised the Academy for providing a team environment in an individual sport.

"The training sessions with a team have improved my game. It's good to be in a team environment to support people and they support you. Also the Academy's education sessions help us a lot with health and nutrition."
