Samuel Dunn faced Wollongong Local Court on Monday on a series of charges stemming from allegations he stole a skateboard from Surf, Dive n Ski, broke into his former home in Port Kembla and ran a red light, resulting in a car crash, in the space of less than 24 hours last Wednesday.
Dunn spent five days in hospital recovering from injuries he sustained in the crash and was still sporting a 6cm cut across his face when he made his court appearance at the start of the week.
Magistrate Robert Walker agreed to release Dunn on conditional bail at the time after Dunn told him "I swear upon my heart that that [re-offending] will not be the case tonight".
You'll take anything you can get your paws on. I don't have paws, I have fingers.
As part of his bail, Dunn was banned from taking non-prescribed drugs or going within 100 metres of the Crown Street Mall.
However, Dunn was arrested again on Tuesday after entering the mall and allegedly stealing another skateboard, this time from City Beach, along with a shirt from Cotton On.
Police will allege Dunn cut the anti-theft device on the skateboard before walking out of the store.
Security staff stopped him and contacted police, who allegedly discovered heavy duty wire cutters, a torch, black rubber gloves and a Swiss army knife 6cm length blade inside Dunn's backpack.
Dunn claimed the implements were for "gardening", police said.
The officers also found a "shopping list" which read "skateboard, cash, drinks, weed, pool, study, see peeps, call Sean, mini USB".
Magistrate Walker was unimpressed with Dunn's early return to custody and refused to release him on bail for a second time, rejecting Dunn's claims he'd been affected by prescription tablets.
"You'll take anything you can get your paws on," Magistrate Walker said.
"I don't have paws, I have fingers," Dunn replied.
The case was adjourned to October 6 for further mention.
