To be safe and abide by COVID-19 restrictions, strikers are holding protests on Friday at a number of Illawarra venues.
The main protests will take place at several locations, including Crown St Mall, Wollongong Town Hall, Arts Precinct, Market Square and Lang Park.
Colourful, physically distanced actions of under 20 people will take place from 11am on September 25.
Earlier in the day school students at numerous locations across northern Illawarra will rally as part of a day of action demanding the "Prime Minister rules out giving billions of COVID-19 recovery funds to gas".
The September 25th #FundOurFutureNotGas day of action is quickly becoming the most widespread day of action against gas in Australia's history, with hundreds of actions.
Some of these protests will be held in front of Scarborough, Coledale and Bulli public schools from 8.30am.
There will also be events at Austinmer Beach (8.30am) and WF Jackson Park and Thirroul Beach Reserve from 9am and 10am respectively.
The day is being organised by the School Strike 4 Climate network, as well as First Nations communities, unions, and everyday Australians in response to the Morrison government planning to give billions of COVID-19 recovery funds into gas.
Amy Lushwitz of Extinction Rebellion, Northern Illawarra said "we want the government to invest in a renewable future. Scientists, economists and the energy sector all agree that gas is a dying industry."
Meantime, Edmund Rice College students are also holding a COVID safe climate demonstration on its school grounds from 11:45 am as part of the nationwide School Strike for Climate Action initiative.
