Two in-form teams, Woonona and Tarrawanna, will meet at Ocean Park on Saturday in the penultimate round of the 2020 season.
While the Sharks in second spot on the IPL ladder, it will be their fourth-placed opponent who enter the game full of confidence. The Blueys have won their past three straight games, a fact that hasn't been lost on Woonona coach Dan McGoldrick.
"I went and watched them play Port Kembla [last week] and they completely blew them off the park [Blueys won 5-0], McGoldrick said.
"It was a very impressive display. They are a young, fit, mobile and fast side. They're a good side, they've got good balance. We'll need to be at our best and take our chances if we want to win."
We'll need to be at our best and take our chances if we want to win.
- Dan McGoldrick
While impressed by Tarrawanna's win, McGoldrick was disappointed with his own side's 1-all draw with Coniston last Saturday.
"I don't think we would have beaten an over-35s side - certainly not in the second half anyway," he said.
"In the first half, we missed several chances in the first two minutes. We didn't take our chances. They scrapped and they also did what a lot of teams will do in a similar situation, knowing that there's no relegation, they bombed forward. They had four guys up front for the whole game. I watched South Coast after our game and they did a similar thing in a high-scoring game against Cringila.
"I said to the lads, 'try and not be complacent'. And I'm not sure there was any conscious complacency, but I think there was definitely unconscious complacency. You get that situation where you need to play well and with the exception of our goalkeeper, I wouldn't have rated any of our players at their best, and we really need all 11 starters to be at the top of their game. And when they are, we are competitive with any side of the league. If that performance had come against the [White] Eagles or Tarrawanna, we'd get smashed."
McGoldrick said the Sharks needed to return to playing "the way we've been playing all year".
"I thought we departed from that, particularly at the back end of the 'Cono' game," he said.
"We could have lost that game, our keeper kept us in that game at the end, so we could have easily been a point less. All we've done is invited all the teams below us into the contest for another week.
"I don't think motivation will be an issue for our lads, they will be highly motivated. They trained well on Tuesday and our lads know a lot of the young Tarrawanna lads as well. They know they're a good side."
In Saturday's other Premier League clashes, Bellambi will host Bulli, Coniston faces Wollongong Olympic and Albion Park will tackle Wollongong United.
Port Kembla will host South Coast United to cap the round on Sunday afternoon.
