Developers are hoping to double the size of Coles and build four multi-storey apartment blocks atop the existing Thirroul Plaza site, in a controversial $60 million redevelopment proposed for the northern Illawarra town.
If approved - which will be done by the NSW Joint Regional Planning Panel due to the project's high investment value - the site would become a three-storey complex of 82 apartments, shops and a major supermarket.
Louise Wellington and Stephen Le Bas from the Save Thirroul Village group said this proposal would have major impacts on everyday life for those living in the northern suburbs.
They say the proposal would be too high density for the location, and would create traffic issues, loss of street parking, and "wreck the village feel and amenity".
The group has therefore organised the 90-minute sessions, which will feature a panel, including traffic and planning consultants.
The sessions will also have information available on what to write in a public submission on the proposal.
The sessions will take place at Thirroul Surf Club on Monday (September 28) at 9am, 11am, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm.
Booking are available through the Save the Thirroul Village website (https://savethirroulvillage.com) or the event on the 'Save Thirroul Village' Facebook page.
