The Coniston centre forward was in rare form, scoring five goals as his side recorded a thumping 6-1 win over Wollongong Olympic in the Premier League's second grade. The result saw them jump into second spot on the ladder, three points behind Wollongong United.
"It was a pretty special weekend, I was pretty happy with how it went. It was surprising, but I'll take it," Pontarolo said.
"I think we needed to win that game to go above Park into second, and I think it cemented a top three spot for the finals as well."
Pontarolo is enjoying his second season at Coniston after previously being at several other clubs. He was mostly recently at Bellambi.
"Coniston is a really good, community club," the 23-year-old said.
"The club has got some really lovely people and it's got the best ground in the Illawarra, so it makes it nice and easy to play there."
Coniston president John Karayiannis said it was a superb performance from Pontarolo, who potentially created a slice of club history on Saturday.
"I went and talked to some of the old boys who have been at the club for over 40 years and they cannot recall a player scoring five goals in a game for the club," he said.
"Connor's been mainly playing second grade, but he's played a bit of first grade this year as well. He's a really good part of the club. Most people in second grade are there to have a good time and if they get that opportunity to play first grade, that's great. In my opinion, Connor's a really good club person as well."
