Little visitors to Guest Park were greeted with a molten mess in the aftermath of the fire, early on Sunday, September 13.
A spokeswoman for Wollongong City Council said council had yet to make a decision on the timing of the replacement or repair of the playground, which has been fenced off for the school holidays.
The site, close to the Princes Highway shopping strip, has become a target for vandals in the past.
In August 2012, its plastic playhouses were half-melted and some equipment was burnt to the ground.
It took three months for the city to replace the equipment. At the time, a council spokeswoman said the delay was due to insurance paperwork and international shipping requirements for the equipment.
