Tradies, DIYers and kids alike will rejoice when the barbie fires up once more at Kembla Grange, Bellambi, Shellharbour and North Wollongong - along with other selected NSW stores - on October 10.
At this stage West Wollongong Rotary will kick off the inaugural sizzle at the recently opened mega store at Kembla Grange.
Shellharbour Rotary, Austinmer Otters and Wollongong Roller Derby are expected to be at the helm with tongs and bread at the other stores.
"While our community groups are taking a number of extra precautions, what hasn't changed is the great feeling of supporting a local community group and the unmistakable taste of an Aussie sausage sizzle," said chief operating officer Deb Poole.
"Community groups and customers ... are keen to see community sausage sizzles return and we're really excited to be bringing them back."
The hardware giant suspended community fund-raisers in March.
Groups who had sausage sizzles pre-booked during the lockdown will be prioritised for the restart, with around 130 organisations scheduled to run events around the state on the first weekend back.
The mighty sausage has already returned to Tasmania and the Northern Territory on July 11, while Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia were up and running from July 25.
Stores in the ACT resume the sizzle on October 3, while Victoria is yet to have a firm date for return.
There will be a few changes, including a new layout that promotes physical distancing and increased personal hygiene processes:
- Separate ordering and pick-up points to allow for 1.5 metres' physical distancing.
- Increased cleaning processes and hygiene requirements. Increased signage to guide customers.
- NSW customers can use the Service NSW app to check-in.
- NSW community groups required to wear a face mask or face covering during sausage sizzle.
The first community sausage sizzle was run 26 years ago at Bunnings Sunshine in Melbourne.
Typically more than 40,000 sausage sizzles are run by local community groups each year.
