On Saturday afternoon, that idea came into fruition as the Falcons clinched the 2020 District League premiers trophy following a 3-0 win over Thirroul at Thomas Gibson Park.

The visitors found the back of the net twice in the opening 35 minutes to establish a 2-0 advantage at half time. The result was then put beyond doubt with a goal in the 62^nd minute.

"Myself and Fabian are ecstatic, two years worth of work has come into fruition. The club is extremely happy, the players even more so," Minutillo said.

"One thing about Thirroul is they are hard to break down. We knew they were there to spoil the party but the boys turned up. You could tell from the first whistle of the game that they had their minds on the task ahead. They turned up in the right frame of mind and took care of business."

Minutillo said the Falcons were now keen to complete the premiership double, however, admitted it was a bit disappointing that promotion to the Premier League was off the table in 2020.

"In the middle of the season, we realised that, to fulfill our potential for the year, we couldn't lose a game. Our first goal was to get the minor premiership, and hopefully we can get two more wins and take care of what we couldn't last year in the grand final," he said.

"When they took promotion off the cards at the start of the year, the club were pretty upset and voiced their opinions on how they still wanted it. But, look, it is what it is. It is hard for a team to win in half a season, but I'm sure in the following year we will be just as competitive and strong."
