Shane Rofe is director of the Highlands-based Rofe Build.
The builder said there had been an increased demand from Sydney residents recently, who were now looking at the Southern Highlands as an area where they could live, as well as commute and/or work from home.
"We've had a lot of people inquire about building work, and we're hearing of a lot of people who have moved down to our area to try and get away from all the COVID and there being too many people there," he said.
"Being able to work from home now definitely helps them do that."
Mr Rofe designed and built his family's home in the Highlands, which is now on the market.
The property at 34 Caroline Avenue, Bowral has a price guide of $1,850,000 to $1,950,000.
Set on a 1135sqm block, the near-new, four-bedroom, two-bathroom home is located in Bowral's exclusive Retford Park Estate.
Mr Rofe said the home was completed in March last year.
"It's been designed with kind of like a Federation style on the outside, with the traditional brickwork, sandstone window sills and front verandah wrapping around with the timber deck," he said.
"But then on the inside, it's sort of a modern industrial style, with polished concrete floors and all the benefits of a new house.
"It's like that old feel, but with a new twist."
Mr Rofe said they planned to stay in the area.
"We love living there - we're just moving on to the next project now," he said.
"I don't like to sit still for too long.
"I think the home probably lends itself to a couple from Sydney who are over the city life and want to get away from the hustle and bustle a bit."
The selling agents are The Agency's Ben Olofsen and Cameron McKillop.
The agents said the home's standout features included the wraparound deck, which framed the home's exterior and provided an ideal position for taking in the nearby mountain views.
Other features include soaring ceilings, timber beams and a wood fire creating a modern farmhouse feel in the living space.
