Crews are working to contain an out of control fire that has started after a hazard reduction burn was being carried out in the Royal National Park.

NSW Rural Fire Service said the fire at Kangaroo Ridge, near the Princes Highway, Waterfall started after a hazard reduction burn to the west of the Princes Highway spotted to the east of the railway line.
Crews are being assisted by water bombing aircraft in an effort to control this fire.
There are no current threats to property however a large amount of smoke will be visible and is affecting the Princes Hwy.
Northbound and southbound lanes of the Princes Highway have reopened between Waterfall and Heathcote.
The highway had been closed southbound between Eckersley Road and Yanagang Street.
Smoke is still will be visible in the area.
Residents should monitor the situation by checking alerts and the Rural Fire Service website.
Additionally, trains are not running between Sutherland and Waterfall in both directions on the T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line, and on the South Coast Line, due to a fire near the tracks causing hazardous condition at Heathcote.
