Our competition season starts next week but already the season has opened up with a bang.
For the few of us not on vacation a sort of informal meet was held last Wednesday to blow away a few cobwebs.
Conditions were ideal and participants were keen.
So enthusiastic in fact that Lara Check smashed a shot put record without it being an official meet. So when the season starts seriously this coming Wednesday it will be case of watch the records fall.
The NSW Cross Country carnival was held at the Kembla Grange cross country course, owned by Kembla Joggers who celebrated an historic achievement when two former members, Jessica Hull and Ryan Gregson, concurrently held the Australian men's and women's 1500m records.
Entries were well down due to the Covid-19 restrictions, but the small Athletics Wollongong team of Ros Perry, Ron Perry, Olivia Sivills, Austin Craig and Charlize Colwell certainly punched above their weight.
