You can't keep a great person or a great business down.

This particularly applies to the 2020 IMB Bank Illawarra Business Awards annual event that will once again be a celebration of business excellence.

But this year it will also be a testament to the incredible resilience of business owners and staff through what has been a very challenging year for many people and businesses.

The ceremony will be themed 'celebrating under the stars' and will capture the essence of the Illawarra's resilient business community.

The 2020 awards will also very fittingly have a Resilience in Business Award category.

The Awards will proceed on Friday, October 16 but with a new format because of the pandemic.

Due to a government-imposed cap on 'corporate events' at 150 attendees, the afternoon event will be held with finalists in attendance and livestreamed to ensure the entire community can participate.

Tickets will be restricted to two per finalist organisation, with a limited number of sponsors, judges and special guests also in attendance.

Executive director of the Illawarra Business Chamber Adam Zarth said that the ceremony would take place at the WIN Entertainment Centre in theatre style and that it will feature light refreshments alongside live entertainment.

"I'm sure everyone will appreciate that to ensure the safety of the community we must limit attendance and adhere to COVID-safe requirements throughout the ceremony," Mr Zarth said.

"However it is vital that we celebrate the Illawarra business community's excellence and resilience this year more than ever.

"I'm also proud to announce that our media partner, WIN Corporation, will produce and broadcast a high-quality livestream of the ceremony to ensure the wider community can share in the excitement of the region's most prestigious business event."

"They represent a great cross-section of businesses, ranging from sole traders to large employers, and reflect a wide range of industries in the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands."

IMB Bank, now celebrating its 140th year, is the principal sponsor of the awards for the fifth year in a row.

IMB Bank chief executive Robert Ryan said the bank was proud to again support an event that recognised many exceptional businesses in the region each year.

"Celebrating business success and encouraging entrepreneurial leadership is vital to developing communities that thrive into the future," Mr Ryan said.

"The IMB Bank Illawarra Business Awards is an integral part of the economic and civic growth in the region."
