Each year the Wollongong Relay for Life is one of the most treasured and best supported community events.
Like everything else, the current coronavirus pandemic has meant this year's Relay for Life will have to be done a little bit differently.
Each year the community gathers to walk laps of Beaton Park as a way of raising funds for the Cancer Council and paying tribute to those in their life who have been touched by cancer.
Instead this year the catch cry for the event will be 'Relay Your Way' and people can chose how they commemorate and fundraise on the day.
There will still be the traditional opening ceremony at 10 am and the much loved Hope Ceremony at 7.30 pm.
Each year the Cancer Council asks someone to represent the event and share their own personal journey.
Angie's life was turned upset down in May last year when she went to hospital feeling unwell, but soon was told she was battling stage three bowel cancer.
Along her journey her little man Oscar stood by his mum's side and this week he has got well and truly involved with the fundraising by creating a special burger with the good folks at His Boy Elroy.
Angie's personality and beaming smile is a trait that all who have met her would recognise and this week it has been on full display as she has watched Oscar get involved in the spirit of Relay for Life.
Angie took the advice of the Cancer Council and was completely up front with her son about what she was going through.
"That has been a huge help," she told the Mercury.
"He is completely across the fact that I am sick and he wants to help me and he wants to help everyone else who is in the same boat. I am very proud of him."
To Angie and Oscar and everyone taking part in the 2020 Wollongong Relay for Life, this community is right there with you every step of the way.
