It was announced on Saturday, Birds of Tokyo, Tim Freedman of The Whitlams, Tumbleweed, Sarah Blasko Jaguar Jonze, Ocean Alley, Phil Jamieson and more than 30 other artists are on the lineup for a month-long celebration.

Waves at Towradgi, Wollongong Town Hall, the University of Wollongong UniBar, La La Las, Dicey Rileys, Centro CBD and Heritage Hotel Bulli are just some of the venues given funding under Great Southern Nights.

"[It's] part of the NSW Government's COVID recovery plan and was created to kick start the bounceback of the live music, hospitality and tourism industries," Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said.

"Venues, artists, promoters, roadies and communities have told us how excited they are to host one or more Great Southern Nights gigs, and how important this initiative is to get their industry back on its feet.

"The NSW Government is proud to be getting artists, roadies, venues, hospitality staff and tourism businesses back to work through this ambitious initiative and now it's over to the public to show their support by booking tickets to a gig or two, or more."

Frontman of The Whitlams, Tim Freedman, is performing solo shows and heading Wollongong's Town Hall on November 6.

He'll delight fans with his solo work as well asThe Whitlams' first single in 14 years, "Ballad of Bertie Kidd".

For Waves, their gigs scheduled for the end of November will celebrate the reopening of the venue which has been closed since March - due to COVID-19 restrictions and a major renovation.

Other artists on tour with COVID-safe gigs around the state include Lime Cordiale, Ash Grunwald, Wendy Matthews, Shannon Noll, Jimmy Barnes, The Veronicas and Tones And I, plus hundreds of other emerging and established artists.

Great Southern Nights is delivered by the NSW Government's tourism and major events agency Destination NSW in partnership with the Australian Recording Industry Association.

ARIA CEO Dan Rosen said the program was coming at a critical time for the industry.

"This is an extremely important moment for the Australian music industry," Mr Rosen said.

"Great Southern Nights is an innovative and effective way of getting artists back on stages safely and ensuring money starts flowing back through the live-music ecosystem - to artists, venues, agents, tour managers and sound and lighting-crews.
