From November 5 to 7, a privately owned life-size Boeing 737 cockpit flight simulator will be parked at the HARS Aviation Museum for the WorldFlight fundraising challenge, and the public can take a look.

Spokesperson for the group Ron Bull said instructors (or "geeks") from the Illawarra Flight Simulator Group will be paired up to each fly a two or three hour leg of the virtual around-the-world experience.

"The whole thing is based around the range of a 737, so ... we can't fly too far across water otherwise or we run out of fuel," Mr Bull said. "It's a lot of fun."

In real time - and adhering to current aviation regulations - the Illawarra participants will make stops at destinations like Adelaide, Indonesia, Japan, Alaska, the US, Europe, Papua New Guinea before virtually landing at their final city of Sydney.

A donation box for the RFD will be provided beside the simulator, with usual entry fees to the museum applying.
