South32 IMC's Dendrobium Community Enhancement Program is providing $15,500 for the local RFS brigades to purchase new equipment that will help to keep communities safe this summer.
The funding will enable volunteer crews at Farmborough Heights and Mount Kembla RFS brigades to purchase new radio equipment, batteries, charging devices and lockers.
IMC vice-president operations Wayne Bull said the the mining company was grateful for the work local RFS volunteers did throughout the Illawarra region to keep the communities safe each year
"All frontline workers, including our local RFS crews, are real heroes," Mr Bull said.
NSW RFS Illawarra District Acting Manager Michael Gray thanked South32 IMC for the generous contribution.
He reminded people in all communities along the South Coast that now is the time to start getting fire-ready for warmer months ahead.
"We're ready to help keep our communities safe this summer," Mr Gray said.
"However, you need to have your own bushfire survival plan and discuss it with your family.
"How fireproof is your fire plan?"
IMC's Dendrobium Community Enhancement Program was established in 2004 to support community projects and initiatives in the local area surrounding IMC's Dendrobium Mine.
