'Wattle Ridge Farm' is located at 700 Wattle Ridge Road, Bowral (Wattle Ridge).

Three years ago, Bowden bought the 258-hectare property from publisher Matt Handbury and Clare Strang for $8.25m.

In that time he's turned the property into a functioning cattle farm.

Bowden, who played for the Newtown Jets from 1978 to 1982, has moved to Melbourne.

The six-bedroom American Georgian style home was completed in 1998.

In addition, the estate features a separate three-bedroom guest house, a five-bedroom manager's residence and all necessary farm buildings.

Other features include an all-weather tennis court, heated pool, a dressage arena, modern stables and day yards for the horses.

The estate is bounded on three sides by the Nattai National Park.

There are 14 dams throughout the property.

The selling agent is Sotheby's International's Michael Pallier.

"You couldn't replace it (the property) for anything like that sort of money," Mr Pallier said. "It's beautiful. It fronts on to a national park, so it's pristine.

"It generates its own electricity, gets its own water supply, it's completely self-sufficient."

About 320 acres has been cleared and developed with about 100 acres sown to introduced pastures, and a further 20 acres normally planted for crop each year.
