The Rural Fire Service has advised permits to burn bush fire fuels have been suspended.
Wollongong is expecting a top of 30 degrees on Monday, Albion Park a top of 33, with chance of a thunderstorm and winds up to 30km/h.
While it may not seem like an extreme weather event to some people, it's still can pose problems for fires, according to the RFS Illawarra.
"Under these conditions new fires can be difficult to control," they wrote on their Facebook page.
"Don't be complacent after recent rain. Grass and finer fuels dry out quickly.
"All permits [were] suspended from midnight, so please ensure any pile burns currently underway are extinguished."
