The award-winning musician has turned his hand to writing children's books and will visit Dymocks in Wollongong Central on Saturday.
He'll be promoting his third picture book, The Incredible Runaway Snot, and signing copies.
Pyke told the Mercury writing for kids was a lot harder than most people thought, but was similar to his musical craft.
"It's similar to songwriting in a sense, that you have to portray a particular message in a light-hearted way but without patronising the kids," he said, noting there will be two more books out next year.
"I write all the time. I was into writing before I was into music even. Now [I'm published] it's something I have a desire to focus on more."
But he won't be hanging up his guitar.
Pyke will head to Gwynneville to perform songs from his sixth studio album Rome, at the UniBar on Saturday night.
Other gigs presented at the UniBar include Phil Jamieson, Sarah Blasko, Birds of Tokyo, Trophy Eyes and Jaguar Jonze.
