A delay in awarding the contract to build lifts at Unanderra station was not a good sign the project would start on time, according to Wollongong MP Paul Scully.
In September the government said the contracts to construct the lifts at the station were expected to be awarded by the end of this year.
Last week, that was quietly pushed back to some time early in 2021.
"I think it's not a good start when you have advice to say the contract will be awarded by the end of the year and now they're saying not till early the following year," Mr Scully said.
"A delay before you even award the contracts doesn't bode well to this staying on time."
A Transport for NSW spokeswoman said the delay was due to the fact the contracts had yet to be finalised but the start date of construction would not be affected.
"Following contract award, design and site investigation work will start, with major construction ...expected to commence in mid 2021 in line with our original schedule," the spokeswoman said.
