Wollongong City Council, the NSW government and the University of Wollongong are involved in the focus on helping businesses and investors establish a presence in the city, and making Wollongong a CBD alternative to locations such as Sydney, Melbourne and Parramatta.
If successful, the bid to lure more business will support significant new investment in office stock.
The new office market prospectus sets out many benefits of setting up business in Wollongong. It highlights the addition of 28,000sqm of A-grade office space either under construction or completed in the past two years - an increase of 36 per cent.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Cr Gordon Bradbery described the city as the perfect location for professional and shared services businesses to establish and grow. He said Wollongong was an ideal place to relocate or establish a satellite office and for a start-up or scale-up to expand.
"With the new office opportunities, alongside the other benefits our city has to offer in terms of work-life balance, culture, the arts and 17 patrolled beaches, Wollongong is a great place to do business."
There was plenty to highlight during Friday's prospectus launch, including the city's strategic location, liveability and supportive community.
And new easy-to-watch videos provided first-hand accounts of why companies have found Wollongong to be a great place to do business. They include Accelo, Easy Agile, Mercer and NEC.
A-grade office stock in the Wollongong CBD showcased in the new prospectus and digital marketing campaigns include;
- Gateway on Keira
- Avante Commercial
- Lang's Corner (under construction)
- IMB Bank Head Office
Potential investors are also being told about the additional 25,000sqm of A-grade office space in the pipeline.
Cr Bradbery said the new promotional material came at an ideal time. He said the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 meant many enterprises were re-examining business models and Wollongong was in a great position to be a viable choice.
Recent research found the city was up to 33 per cent more cost-effective for a shared services operation than Sydney, Melbourne and Parramatta. Staff turnover rate was less than half the national average, which highlighted how people who secured a job in the city enjoyed the lifestyle so much they didn't want to leave.
