The dominant South Coast force in recent years, the Lakers had four players unavailable for Saturday's clash with Albion Park due to Country Championships commitments.
That saw 15-year-old Mitchell Constantinou handed his debut and the leg-spinner did not disappoint, claiming 2-36 off 10 overs.
Lake Illawarra bowled the Eagles out for 165 before Shane Glasson fired 66 to secure a comfortable eight-wicket win.
"Mitchell was really good," Captain Mark Ulcigrai said. "He bowled 10 straight, he was consistent, he has a bright future.
"With rep guys coming back, he'll probably go back to second grade, but he'll get his opportunity again throughout the season."
Also on Saturday, Oak Flats defeated Kookas and Shellharbour beat Kiama.
