She had to settle for second in Port Macquarie. But Molly Picklum has gone one step further by claiming this year's Kiama Open.

The Shelly Beach surfer was a standout performer at the two-day competition, culminating in her winning the open women's final on Monday afternoon. Picklum posted a score of 13.07 in the decider to claim victory, holding off a strong challenge from Sarah Baum (11.74).
Close to 30 women took part in the Open, including a strong contingent of South Coast talent. The best performers were Port Kembla's Charli Hurst and Shell Cove teen Oceanna Rogers, who both reached the semi finals.

For Picklum, the win came on the back of her runner-up placing at last week's Port Macquarie Open. Picklum said she was delighted to go one better and secure victory at Werri Beach on Monday
"Most of my heats I began with an eight-point ride, but in the final, I began with two fours until the final 10 or 15 minutes," she said.
"That heat was super tight and all the other surfers rip, so I definitely wasn't taking it lightly, but I'm just really happy I was able to keep up the same consistency over the entire event and get the win."
