Event Director Rob Battocchio said it was a difficult decision he did not take lightly but had to consider today's environment and the health and safety of all involved and the local community.
"In light of current COVID restrictions we feel it is in the best interests of our participants, partners and supporters," he said.
"All Aquathon swim-run events will be moved to partner event Splash Wollongong on Saturday March 6."
Mr Battocchio said the event was designed around more than 3000 participants and spectators, though current restrictions made it "near impossible" to create a "community atmosphere".
"Running the event on restricted capacity would not do the event nor our stakeholders justice and not viable from a business perspective," he said.
The Wollongong Splash is still planned to go ahead, he said, which is a mix of ocean and harbour swims and swim-runs.
