The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting comfortably less for Wollongong, with top temperatures of 31 degrees for Saturday and 33 for Sunday. Temperatures are then expected to ease back to the high 20s for the first week of summer in the Illawarrra.
Meantime, inland areas of NSW are expected to soar with some country towns reaching temperatures beyond 40 degrees later in the week. Towns like Nyngan, Warialda and Wee Waa are forecast to hit 45 degrees in coming days.
For Western Sydney, temperatures are predicted to head into the low 40s on Saturday and Sunday, While in Sydney CBD it is set to reach 33 and 36 degrees across the weekend.
The current La Nina weather pattern has meant spring has favoured wetter-than-average conditions.
Despite more rainfall of late, RFS Illawarra district manager Superintendent Greg Wardle previously told the Mercury residents couldn't be complacent about the risk of bushfires.
"We still have a concern with fuel loads around and lightning strikes and anything that may take hold and run out of the catchment areas," he said.
